Here are the diagrams for the more popular L-head engines. I will post the others as soon as I get them scanned. These images belong to the Briggs and Stratton Corporation. They came from the shop manual, P/N 270962, 1995 Revision. L-head (flathead) refers to the pushrod valvetrain configuration in which the valves are placed in the engine block beside the pistons. The design was common on early engine designs, but has since fallen from use. Generally L-head engines use a small chamber on one side of the cylinder to carry the valves. This system is designed to perform a baseline ore processing chain through: 1. Universal Macerator 2. In L-head inline engine, the intake and exhaust manifolds are connected to the side of the cylinder block. On I-head engines the manifolds are joined to the cylinder head. Other parts attached to the block include the water pump (at the front), timing gear or timing chain cover (at the front), flywheel and clutch housing (at rear), ignition ... L-Head engines have inherent design advan-tages which result in a more simple engine of lower height, weight and cost. All valves, cams, valve lifters and all other moving parts are a part of the cylinder block assembly. Thanks in advance Search Engine by Category or by Diagram General It is a six-cylinder L-head engine of 226.2 cubic inch displacement and develops 105 brake horsepower at 3600 rpm. The engine serial number is stamped near the left front corner of the cylinder block above the generator. The same engine serial number is also stamped on an engine plate on early models.

Conventional wisdom on engine # and serial # matching for early CJs is that the L-head engine serial #s for CJ-2As started (at least in mid '46) out close to the same as the vehicle's serial #, then as replacement engines were shipped the spread between the CJ's serial # and the engine's # got wider and wider.

A flathead engine, also known as a sidevalve engine or valve-in-block engine is an internal combustion engine with its poppet valves contained within the engine block, instead of in the cylinder head, as in an overhead valve engine.. Flatheads were widely used internationally by automobile manufactures from the late 1890s until the mid-1950s but were replaced by more efficient overhead valve ...

L-134 Static Timing Page 16 Unlike contemporary engines, the L-134 has two mechanical idiosyncracies that can cause confusion if parts are not installed "according to the manual" during engine rebuild or parts replacement. The timing marks are on the FLYWHEEL (not the front pully as on most modern engines), so

First Generation - 1932-1938. The first of the Ford L-head (flathead) V8 engines left the factory on March 9, 1932. This engine used a 90-degree block, with the valves located next to the pistons, pointed upwards. The heads are not truly flat, having four spade-shaped combustion chambers to accommodate the motion of the valves.

Other articles where L-head engine is discussed: gasoline engine: Cylinder block: …which has largely replaced the L-head type, has its valves entirely in the cylinder head. The cylinder block of the L-head engine is extended to one side of the cylinder bores, with the valve seats and passages for inlet and exhaust, together with the valve guides, formed in this extension…

Engine valves are mechanical components used in engines to regulate the air, fuel, and exhaust gas flow in the combustion chambers or cylinder head during engine operation. The valve operation is very simple: the cam pushes the valves down into the cylinder against the spring, opening the valve so gases can flow, and then letting the valve shut ...

So the F-head was employed very successfully for decades on, their line of 4.2, 4.6 and 4.9 L engines used in the RR passenger cars until it was finally replaced by the OHV V8 in 1959, which is still in use by Bentley today. The B60 (shown above) was a smaller 3.9 L engine and used in the 4 liter Princess.

A low-compression piston engine is best configured as a twin-cam "Tee" head engine (similar to an ";L" head engine) with inlet and exhaust valves on opposite sides of the cylinder. The valve diameter can be as big as the piston diameter.
