Finally found thru a link here a vacuum diagram series that is legible. I cropped the jpg to only show my '85 and even using MS Picture Manager at ~80% it is still VERY legible. Tried to resize the '85 to show here but the quality doesnt hold. The link shows vacuum diagrams for : 240D 1982-83 manual transmission 240D 1982-83 automatic transmission Ended up with some weird vacuum line that melted, swelled up and fell off causing some running issues

The transmission will work without this line, but the shifts will be hard as if the throttle was all the way to the floor. If the hose is broken or missing, there will also be a vacuum leak at the carburetor, causing a rough/high idle and possible an intermittent backfire.

So I have an update. I spent some time tracing the vacuum hose routing in the car, and comparing it to the VW Vacuum Hose Routing Diagram. In my first post I mentioned a 'stray' hose that was disconnected, and as it turns out the hose is not on the diagram. On closer inspection, it originates from a T-Piece in the N75 to VNT Actuator Line.
